Position Summary:

The Direct Support Professional in the Recreation Services program is responsible for supporting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities through recreational activities. This position works directly with persons served and meets their needs while demonstrating flexibility in adapting to those needs. Individual must represent Community Living, Inc. in the community with appropriate professional behavior at all times.

Pay Rate: $18/hr

Schedule:

  • PT 20 Hrs. Various hours, days, evenings, and weekends
    • Monday – Thursday: 2 shifts per week
    • Friday Evening: 2 per month
    • Saturday: 1 full per month (can be split between Saturdays)

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensures the safety and welfare of all persons served.
  • Assists in leading and facilitating activities and events for persons served, both on-site and in the community.
  • Creates and maintains an engaging and inclusive environment for all members.
  • Assists persons served with hygiene, physical, and mobility needs as necessary.
  • Conducts vehicle checks prior to use and safely transports persons served to and from Adult Recreation events.
  • Completes all documentation related to persons served activities on a daily basis.
  • Promotes and maintains a positive relationship between the Adult Recreation program and its persons served, families, employees, and volunteers.
  • Completes and maintains all required trainings.
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Experience, Skills:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Possess sound oral and written communication skills as well as decision-making skills.
  • Possess good listening and comprehension skills along with strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to write and document in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
  • Possess the ability to use Microsoft Office applications including, but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to work as a team member.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Driver’s License

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Drive large van to and from events, programs, etc. Must assist persons served entering and exiting the van. Lock down wheelchairs in vans.

  • Physically assist persons served as needed.

  • Lift persons served who cannot bear weight.

  • Push and maneuver wheelchairs.

  • Moderate Work – Exerts up to 50lbs of force occasionally and 20lbs frequently. Standing, sitting, reaching, typing, and walking are common.
